The authors regret the need for this corrigendum. In our 2024 paper we investigated how temperature affects performance of professional tennis players in outdoor singles matches in big tournaments. We found that performance significantly decreases with ambient temperature. We did not find differences between men and women but we did find that the temperature effect is smaller when there is more at stake. We also found that the negative temperature effect is smaller if the heat lasts, i.e. there is some adaptation to high temperatures. In March 2025, we realized that our analysis is affected by a measurement error in our climate and air pollution variables. We erroneously assumed that these were recorded at 3 pm local time, whereas they were actually recorded at 3 pm UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). In the analysis, the temperature effect is identified using temperatures in deviation from the tournament-edition mean. To the extent that the deviations are dependent on the local hour of the day, our mistake introduces a measurement error which increases with the distance of the tournament location from Greenwich. We replicated all analyses in our paper. In the appendix to this corrigendum we first show – without discussion – the main differences in temperature effects between the revision and the original paper. We show that the parameter estimates are barely affected, and our main conclusions remain unchanged. Next, we report and discuss all the tables and figures from the original paper, now using the correct data. The authors would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. © 2025 The Authors
