Senigallia, City of Water, Dreams and Silence

Senigallia is the barycentre of Puccini’s Marche globe, the last rib of Ancona province, the solar star whose rays spread from pole to pole of the region, observed in its ambivalent approval as haven city, nursery city, place of the legend, “city of dreams and silence”, archetype of an Eden touched by the grace of memory, and at the same time prison city and fortress city. Signs of passage and stopovers: “the shadow of lampposts on the paving lengthening and shortening, almost as though they were the arms of people”, so much so as to give the impression “that the city was immerged in water.” Land, city and sea, elements of a single natural body, fragments of a cosmic light that tips each and every limit into infi nity, each closed space into the enormity of emptiness, each moment of time beyond eternity, frontiers that break through into the unspeakable, taking the jumps of nature to the highest latitudes of the spirit.
