Hyalesthes obsoletus Signoret is a palearctic planthopper and its plant host choice is made at the adult stage, while the larvae feed and develop on the root systems of the host plants. In the present study, behavioural, morphological and electrophysiological analysis were carried out to deepen our knowledge of the role of volatile organic compounds in H. obsoletus host-plant recognition. Bioassays were performed using a Y-olfactometer, with test on the following plants: nettle, bindweed, hedge bindweed, chaste tree and grapevine. The results show a significant attraction of females to nettle and of males to chaste tree.

Abstract
Hyalesthes obsoletus Signoret is a palearctic planthopper and its plant host choice is made at the adult stage, while the larvae feed and develop on the root systems of the host plants. In the present study, behavioural, morphological and electrophysiological analysis were carried out to deepen our knowledge of the role of volatile organic compounds in H. obsoletus host-plant recognition. Bioassays were performed using a Y-olfactometer, with test on the following plants: nettle, bindweed, hedge bindweed, chaste tree and grapevine. The results show a significant attraction of females to nettle and of males to chaste tree.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
