The effectiveness of the "lure and kill" method was evaluated for two years in the coast hills of the province of Ancona (Marche region, central Italy) to control the olive fruit fly Bactrocera oleae Gmelin. The method was compared during 2001 to chemical larvicidal treatments (which constituted the standard control method currently used) and during 2002 with the same "lure and kill" method plus copper treatments. In both those years it was present the untreated control. Evaluation of the method was based on the olive fly population density throughout the experimental period by using sex pheromone traps, chromotraps and fruit infestation level. The result indicated that the method effectiveness is related to climatic conditions. Only during the years with dry and hot summers, using one killing devise per tree, baited with ammonium bicarbonate and pheromone, has the potential to keep the level of fruit infestation to level equivalents to the conventional control field.

Abstract
Only during the years with dry and hot summers, using one killing devise per tree, baited with ammonium bicarbonate and pheromone, has the potential to keep the level of fruit infestation to level equivalents to the conventional control field.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
