The study was carried out on 50 patìents submitted to oral surgery, subdivided in two groups, each of 25 patìents. Chlordemetildiazepam (CDDZ) was given orally at the dosage of 0.75 mg in the first group and of 1,5 mg in the second group. The decrase of anxiety, evaluated with V.A.S, was greater 30 min after the subministration of1,5 mg of CDDZ. ISAR test for dentist fear and a analogous test (Interval Scale of Pain Intensity = ISPI) for evaluation of pain fear were carried out before and after surgery. These tests showed a greater preoperative reduction of more elevated scores(expecially for fear) after I.S.P.I. pointing out that dentist fear was very represented in the studied population. The pharmacological treatment resulted pleasant for all patìents of both groups. However many patìents referred inconveniences of organizatory, structural and tecnological natures that could have contributed in increasing perioperative anxiety levels. The method of anxiolysis utilized is resulted of easy execution and doesn't provoked any adverse perioperative reaction.
