A clinical-morphological study concerning tendon expansion has been carried out on a extensor tendon at the metacarpo-phalangeal joint presenting rigidity of the joint when extended. Surgical data showed that the tendon elongation after expander application was sufficient to allow its normal excursion up to the maximum flexion. Morphological analysis showed the presence in the expanded tendon areas of a high number of small diameter collagen fibrils. The capability of collagen fibrils to react against mechanical expansor stress, and reorganize a structural histoarchitecture of an immature type producing structural signs of normal behaviour has been tested. Abstract
