«Isolatìon of Listeria spp. from fresh meats in Campania». In order to furtherly defìne the epidemiology of the genus Listeria in Campania, the Authors report the results of a survey for the isolation of the microrganismi from 219 samples of fresh meats in Campania. Using a serial selective enrichment procedure the Authors isolated strains belonging to the genus Listeria from 30.1% of the examined specimens. The highest levels of positivity were found in poultry meats (43.4%), followed by pork (32.8%) and beef samples (21.2%). Listeria monocytogenes was the most frequent species, isolated from 26.4% of poultry meats, 16.4% of pork meats and 13.1% of beef meats. The remarkable isolation percentage combined with the high frequency of serotype 4 found in the 7.3% of samples, confim the need for an intensive epidemiological surveillance on the spreading of Listeria spp. and for proper preventive measures.
