Abstract

The rate equations which rule the evolution of the signals inside an active fiber and the nonlinear Schrödinger equation are jointly solved in order to obtain an accurate characterization of the pulse propagation. The exact behaviour of the gain is taken into account so obtaining useful informations also in the perspective of system design when a cascade of passive and active fibers is considered.
