ABSTRACT: The difficult subject of the interaction between soil and a structure is dealt with in this note with an emphasis on the specific case of shallow foundations sitting on slopes that are unstable due to a slow deformation process confined within shallow depths. The main aspects of a real case are hereby presented: introduction to the problem, analysis of the causes of instability, and a study of the possible remedy. The aim of this investigation is to identify a methodology that can be used in the hilly and intensively urbanised areas along the Adriatic coast in Italy.
