Ageing presents significant challenges regarding housing conditions, which are crucial factors influencing the quality of life, autonomy, and overall well-being of the elderly population. This study investigates the living arrangements and residential mobility intentions of individuals aged 60 and over in Italy. Drawing on data from the ITA.LI survey, representative of the Italian population, a descriptive analysis assesses housing conditions across age groups, comparing those of older people with those of younger individuals and subsequently exploring regional disparities. Additionally, a logistic regression model is employed to investigate the relationship between individual, familial, and housing-related factors and the expressed intention to relocate among the elderly population. Results show that individuals’ familial and contextual resources are associated with their propensity for residential mobility, in turn enabling ageing in place instead of institutionalisation.
