As a consequence of global warming, together with the general increase in air temperature, the so-called summer “heat waves” have particularly increased in frequency and intensity in Europe in recent years, even in countries with a generally cold and temperate climate. In the coming decades, this will lead to increasingly higher temperatures even inside buildings, especially in existing ones with poor construction quality and low energy performance. Low-income families will be more affected by thermal discomfort and related health risks, as they are unable to afford the costs of purchasing and using air conditioning systems. In this context, it is therefore urgent to experiment and adopt climate adaptation strategies to improve summer comfort in buildings, especially in social housing, which are often largely affected by the phenomenon of “energy poverty”. The LIFE SUPERHERO project demonstrates the passive cooling effectiveness of Ventilated and air Permeable Roofs (VPR). Two examples of VPR with high-performance cooling tiles (the “Herotiles”) are applied to two social buildings in Reggio Emilia (Italy), as good climate practice and fort the benefit of the comfort and well-being of the occupants.

Abstract
Two examples of VPR with high-performance cooling tiles (the “Herotiles”) are applied to two social buildings in Reggio Emilia (Italy), as good climate practice and fort the benefit of the comfort and well-being of the occupants.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
