The recent SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has brought to the fore the key role of air quality in infection prevention and control, forcing the healthcare sector to reconsider risk prevention measures, also in terms of correct design and management of ventilation and air conditioning. This article, based on the evidence provided by the most recent studies concerning respiratory infection transmission, lists the main environmental requirements suitable for the hospitalization and assistance of patients suffering from airborne diseases and analyzes the technological tools to meet them. An overview of the technologies and ventilation systems to implement in the event of construction of new structures or renovation of pre-existing structures will be carried out, also considering emergency epidemic situations where a quick retrofitting of rooms or hospital areas is needed.

Abstract
The recent SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has brought to the fore the key role of air quality in infection prevention and control, forcing the healthcare sector to reconsider risk prevention measures, also in terms of correct design and management of ventilation and air conditioning. This article, based on the evidence provided by the most recent studies concerning respiratory infection transmission, lists the main environmental requirements suitable for the hospitalization and assistance of patients suffering from airborne diseases and analyzes the technological tools to meet them. An overview of the technologies and ventilation systems to implement in the event of construction of new structures or renovation of pre-existing structures will be carried out, also considering emergency epidemic situations where a quick retrofitting of rooms or hospital areas is needed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
