The natural convection of a fluid in a cavity with partially thermally active sidewalls of height H/4 with side length of the cavity that varies from 0.02 to 0.05 m and the cavity of side length of 0.05 m with and without a horizontal baffle is investigated experimentally and numerically for the following Rayleigh numbers: 10^3–10^5. The results clearly demonstrate that the baffle has a significant effect on heat transfer and flow characteristics of the fluid. The average Nusselt numbers are smaller than the corresponding values in the cavity without the baffle.

Abstract
The natural convection of a fluid in a cavity with partially thermally active sidewalls of height H/4 with side length of the cavity that varies from 0.02 to 0.05 m and the cavity of side length of 0.05 m with and without a horizontal baffle is investigated experimentally and numerically for the following Rayleigh numbers: 10^3–10^5. The results clearly demonstrate that the baffle has a significant effect on heat transfer and flow characteristics of the fluid. The average Nusselt numbers are smaller than the corresponding values in the cavity without the baffle.File in questo prodotto:
