A practicable strategy for the optimization of large slotted waveguide traveling-wave arrays is discussed. The technique acts directly on an efficient full-wave model of the antenna, recently proposed [1]-[3], thus considering all the actual effects such as mutual couplings, thickness and truncation. Optimization is performed on the phases of the feeders -row by row- controlling the modal voltages across the slots, modeled as section of nearly rectangular waveguides.
