The aim of the present work is the study of Capillary Suction Time (CST) as a non conventional method to investigate clayey soil-leachate chemical interactions. The understanding of the modification that take place in clayey rich soils when washed is important to remove contaminants. The effect of different saline concentration and cationic characteristics on a bentonite clay has been studied. The results obtained using a home made modified version of a commercial CST apparatus outline a good sensibility and repeatability of measures. CST modified apparatus appears as an useful screening technique in the selection of soil remediation washing fluids. The effect of the presence of anionic or neutral surfactants, as treatment coadjutants, has been elucidated.

Abstract
The aim of the present work is the study of Capillary Suction Time (CST) as a non conventional method to investigate clayey soil-leachate chemical interactions. The understanding of the modification that take place in clayey rich soils when washed is important to remove contaminants. The effect of different saline concentration and cationic characteristics on a bentonite clay has been studied. The results obtained using a home made modified version of a commercial CST apparatus outline a good sensibility and repeatability of measures. CST modified apparatus appears as an useful screening technique in the selection of soil remediation washing fluids. The effect of the presence of anionic or neutral surfactants, as treatment coadjutants, has been elucidated.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
