Digital devices and mobile technologies offer a wide range of possibilities to mental healthcare professionals. Indeed, digital devices and mobile health (mHealth) is rapidly entering into mental health practice, significantly fostered by the recent COVID-19 pandemic. This chapter will review the current evidence base for specific areas of digital devices and mHealth, including the use of biosensors in mobile phones, and in particular how sensing and hardware collect physiological and movement data, organize it, and how data analytic techniques help users make decisions. Moreover, a description of the most evidence-based uses of digital phenotyping, smartphone-based tools, apps, and innovative software solutions for mental health care and well-being will be provided.
