The quality of port infrastructure and the level of infrastructure connecting the port to the hinterland is turning out to be a major constraint affecting international maritime trade. The governments world over have continued to invest in the improvement of infrastructure at their respective ports to reduce the cost of trade. This thesis therefore applies the gravity model of international trade to determine the impact of infrastructure investments undertaken by Kenya at the port of Mombasa on the value of its maritime trade. The results show that these investments generated significant improvements in the value of Kenyan maritime exports. Moreover, the size of the economy determined the pattern of trade with developed countries receiving more exports from Kenya relative to developing countries.

Abstract
The quality of port infrastructure and the level of infrastructure connecting the port to the hinterland is turning out to be a major constraint affecting international maritime trade. The governments world over have continued to invest in the improvement of infrastructure at their respective ports to reduce the cost of trade. This thesis therefore applies the gravity model of international trade to determine the impact of infrastructure investments undertaken by Kenya at the port of Mombasa on the value of its maritime trade. The results show that these investments generated significant improvements in the value of Kenyan maritime exports. Moreover, the size of the economy determined the pattern of trade with developed countries receiving more exports from Kenya relative to developing countries.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
