The aim of this essay is to examine the impact of waste management on the right to the protection of personal data. After emphasising the risks for the protection of personal data concerning the collection of municipal waste – also with reference to the Internet of Things technologies and the ‘commodification’ of personal data –, the paper focuses on the recycling and reuse of waste from electronic devices. The analysis shows the need to create a ‘Circular economy’ model also paying careful attention to the need to protect personal information.
