The evaluation of the residual efficiency of post-tensioned cables in existing prestressed concrete bridges is a very challenging and important task for the structural safety assessment. Indeed, some collapses of this kind of bridges occurred recently in Italy were attributed to the failure of cables. However, non-destructive tests for the damage detection of cables are not yet effective and well-established in the literature. The paper presents a new testing technique, based on Digital Radiography (DR), to check the integrity of post-tensioned cables in beam webs by means of radiographic images able to detect both the corrosion of wires or strands and the grouting consistency in ducts. The DR technique has been recently applied in two highway viaducts and validated through local destructive core samples, detecting the real state of cables. The results of this testing campaign are widely discussed.

Abstract
The results of this testing campaign are widely discussed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
