During each year many road accidents are caused by the drowsiness of the driver: for this reason, to equip each car with a system that can alert the driver about a drowsiness event can be crucial to make driving safer and reduce the mortality rate associated to this cause. Such a system should monitor the vital parameters of the driver in a minimally invasive way, and use the measured data to detect if he/she is getting sleepy. In this work a non-contact technique based on the use of radars is proposed: two different radar systems are used to detect vital parameters of the driver (heart and respiration rates), and their performance are compared.

Abstract
During each year many road accidents are caused by the drowsiness of the driver: for this reason, to equip each car with a system that can alert the driver about a drowsiness event can be crucial to make driving safer and reduce the mortality rate associated to this cause. Such a system should monitor the vital parameters of the driver in a minimally invasive way, and use the measured data to detect if he/she is getting sleepy. In this work a non-contact technique based on the use of radars is proposed: two different radar systems are used to detect vital parameters of the driver (heart and respiration rates), and their performance are compared.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
