Geographic Information Systems are a valid support for the scientific activity, not only related to environmental goods, but also for the management of cultural heritage. The combined geomatic techniques give 3D models of the objects, identifying and integrating any information in a useful GIS. In recent years the research has brought GIS systems closer to the third dimension combining them with the growing interest in 3D visualization and analysis. The aims of the research, in collaboration with the Municipality of Cagnano Varano (FG,Italy), are the protection, conservation and enhancement of Idroscalo Ivo Monti, an architectural and archaeological heritage. The choice of a three-dimensional GIS has allowed not only a real description of environment, but also has provided the collection and management of any information related to the building materials and the degradation of them. useful tool to support the restoration works.
