The paper presents the analysis of a reconfigurable antenna based on plasma reflectors. In particular the modellization of plasma elements to be inserted inside a disc antenna has been considered. The knowledge of the plasma state inside plasma elements permits a better simulation of the performance of the antenna with the aid of a commercial software. The result obtained demonstrated that it is not sufficient to consider a lossy dielectric to simulate a plasma reflector, and that a plasma model is necessary to design all the process involved in the radiation of the antenna.

Abstract

The paper presents the analysis of a reconfigurable antenna based on plasma reflectors. In particular the modellization of plasma elements to be inserted inside a disc antenna has been considered. The knowledge of the plasma state inside plasma elements permits a better simulation of the performance of the antenna with the aid of a commercial software. The result obtained demonstrated that it is not sufficient to consider a lossy dielectric to simulate a plasma reflector, and that a plasma model is necessary to design all the process involved in the radiation of the antenna.
