This paper presents a numerical model, based on the domain decomposition technique, for the analysis of the soil-structure kinematic and inertial interaction of generic structures on pile foundations. A finite element model is considered for the pile group and the soil is assumed to be a Winkler-type medium. The soil-pile in-teraction is included by considering dynamic impedances according to simplified available theories. The iner-tial interaction between foundation and superstructure is also captured by a finite element approach. The static condensation of the problem leads to the definition of the equivalent model in which the foundation is re-placed by deformable restraints. Some comparisons with data available in the literature show the potential of the model in catching both the static and dynamic behaviour of the foundation.
