In recent years, Italian landscape of psychotherapy have had a very dynamic increase; such a fact makes difficult any attempt to strike an up to date global balance in psychotherapeutic field. In fact, beside traditional approaches, new and heterogeneous psychotherapies have been arisen; in some cases, adequate theoretical bases, training of therapists, clinic methods, and setting do not support enough such approaches. Furthermore, in Italy as in other Countries, rapid and large development of knowledge in psychobiology and psychopharmacology has allowed a psychotherapeutic approach in previously clinically incurable patients; such a development has also compelled psychotherapy to compare its methods, results and costs with organic treatments and to research newer epistemological paradigms. In front of such changes, some psychotherapeutic approaches have withdrawn into themselves in rigorous and rigid observance of their theoretical and clinic traditions; some other approaches have arisen on clinic scene, taking advantage of current fashion topics; other approaches have gotten up to date from advances in scientific progress.
